I know it's early in the day but I really thought we'd see a few bombs dropped on some guys instead of the nickel and diming.

Honestly, its always smarter to nickel and dime.

I never understood the logic really. If I know I really want Luongo and I know he's going to go for 10mil, just come out swinging and make your statement If I was bidding that's what I would do, I see no reason to not just get it out of the way.

Maybe years of crazy spending have finally caught up to JGHL GMs ;-) (then again, probably not!)
Our NHL counterparts actually showed some restraint in this year's edition

Sometimes putting in a small bid at first is just to make sure you are eligible to bid on that player again later in FA. Anyways, just my thought!
This year seems like a crazy year for FA. We have 3rd-4th liners already over 2 million. Lots of GMs participating this year. It is good to see!

I like to see the competition right away on the players I'm targeting by going big on a few of them. I did that with two 4mil bids right off the bat, and I don't even have the top bid at present on those. Also might be good to know if you had a worse record then the guys your bidding against. Remember guys, if it goes to 10mil the GM with the worst record last season wins the bid.
There are a few players gettin up there.

I think only 2 players this year justify a max - Hossa and Markov. Luongo will get there but I think it's foolish. There's 2 teams in desparate need of a starter, but it would handcuff both of them to give him a max so should be fun to watch that bidding war unfold.
And I don't see us showing the same restrain as NHL GMs did this year. Queue Joel Ward's and Kunitz's brand new 7 mil deals!

Uping a $3 million dollar bid to $3.25 on a player that will go to 6-10 million is not saving 500K (talking about Sedin!).

Paying 6-10 mil for Sedin, is insane. 10MIL for an 83 passing, cause the rest of his rating imo are too low for that kind of money.

Are we looking at the same player? Sedan has elite SK, PH, and PA ratings, along with an above average 70 SC. He is one of the best rated play makers this year. His 73 OV reflects that. 6 million for Sedin would be a bargain.

6 mil would definitely be a bargain. 8 mil is fair. 10 mil overpayment. That's what I don't like about FA, you can go from bargain to overpayment in a matter of a few bids..
