Hard to say, Mike. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and say he probably was seeing two of everything after that hit in the corner and really didn't know where he was.

Yes I do, he extended his arms and pushed and followed through. No doubt in my mind. he was pissed he got rocked! No benefit of the doubt from me as the arms extended and followed through.....

Looked pretty damn intentional to me. I foresee incoming suspension.

The thing that makes me think it MIGHT be unintentional is his sake movement right before the hit, the brief stutter of oh shit!

Now we gotta suspend him for being drunk during a game too!

Definitely intentional. I think it was just a moment of frustration skating to the bench and when the linesman was in his way he didn't Think and just went to shove him out of the way. Stupid? Yes intentional? Definitely On purpose? I don't think so

LOL saw something on twitter about a 10 game suspension but didn't see this until now. What a goof. I'd file that under momentary lapse of sanity, but pretty sure he was fully aware it was a zebra shirt and not that of an opponent's..

I gotta agree with Joe - I think he was dazed & confused - he might've thought the official was a Predator. Can't see him intentionally hitting an official...but who the heck knows. "Wide-Dog" (as the local radio guys coined him) is a bit of an odd guy, though they say once you get used to him he's a good guy to deal with. Was hoping the Flames would be able to deal him (miraculoously with one yr on his contract) at the deadline...

He definitely meant to hit the guy in front of him. The only area that I might give him some benefit of the doubt is that he may of thought it was a Pred and not the linesman. But watching that play it was exactly the type of frustrated push you give to guys after taking a hit you didn't like. It was not a guy who was surprised by a collision.

To me he it looked like Wideman was looking downwards as he was skating to the bench, and then was taken by surprise when the referee was in the way. Disorientation may have also played a role after his head hit the glass. I honestly don't think there are many NHL players that would purposely hit a referee, especially not a veteran with a fairly clean track record like Wideman.
That being said, if Wideman i suspended for ten games, I'm not sure the Flames will be a worse team.

Lots of times, when I'm walking through the mall, I'm on my phone, texting or checking the message boards or what have you. I'm distracted. Sometimes I look up, lost in my own world, disoriented, if you will. If there is someone near me, in front of me with their back turned, especially, I fucking hammer them to the ground. You know, I'm disoriented and lost in my own world. I really think they are trying to rob me. Or something? No concussed player has ever hammered him own teammate because he was disoriented. Momentary lapse of judgement maybe, but I don't buy the disoriented, concussed story for a second. Why didn't he just piss in the corner or go in the Nashville bench if he was confused? Suspend him for however many games, and part of his punishment should be that he has to get to the highest level of being a linesman. And he can't play again until he's been a linesman in a WHL game. And all his money he loses goes to me and to the linesman he railed from behind. Most to me because it's my idea

I do not agree he was looking down as there was no time that he lifted his head, but he could see enough to push out his arms, extending with a shove. 20 games is the NHL rule so we will see, he should be suspended and fined and this is from a guy who always rough on refs in all sports. LOL

Yeah I don't buy the excuses either, he was looking RIGHT at the ref before he shoved him, he was literally directly in front of him. Even if he was "startled" somehow (apparently skating while not looking where he is going) he is STILL to blame for not watching where the fuck he was skating, the onus is on him to make sure he doesn't collide with the linesman going back to the bench, especially when the linesman is looking down the ice.
Suspension is warranted, don't do stupid shit like that.

I agree a suspension is warranted. The NHL needs to protect the refs, but I do not think anyone should brush off the hard hit to the head as being "just an excuse". Has this happened before? Maybe not.... but that is not evidence either for or against Wideman. It is a fact a blow to the head can cause severe disorientation. Given Wideman's history it would be very uncharacteristic to suddenly hit a ref. Hockey players are engrained from the age of 6-7 that you never touch the freakin' ref! That is why is almost never happens in professional leagues and I don't think Wideman is the type that would break that trend (Burrows or Cooke on the other hand...).
I see the video differently than Gavin does for sure, and that isn't because I'm a Flames fan! If a Flame did that purposely to a ref I would be just as hard on him as any other player on any other team.
