I'm having a little debate with someone over which league has more talent/is a higher level of hockey.
One person says the QMJHL is the superior league.
The other person says even the best team in the QMJHL would get crushed by any top 20 division 1 NCAA team.

That's a tough one. Seen too many high end picks from the Q struggle in the big league, whereas the NCAA produces NHL ready guys every year. Many of them go undrafted like Veseys and the Butchers. It's a good one

I have a tough time with the best Q team being weaker than "any" of the top 20. Both leagues are strong and NCAA has been picking up its game the past 5-10 years but I would say year to year it fluctuates depending on the best players in each. I would say the NCAA is deeper team wise than the Q.

Well, the NCAA has players that are older, bigger, stronger. I think if Q teams were to beat them it would be a big surprise. Not that different from the W or O tho.
For my taste I feel the OHL is the best developmental CHL league, but that's just me.

NCAA guys have developed physically more than anything at that point, but they're not as many guys that even become successful in the NHL coming out of the NCAA, even when they get signed..

Interesting only 2 1st overall picks in past 27 years from NCAA
Conversely from Q over same period 10 were selected
OHL = 13 WHL = 5

Right, but if you think about it a lot of players arent eligible to play in the NCAA until after they are drafted.
The question isnt so much, which is the better developmental league, but rather "if teams from both leagues played, who would win?".
And I think its NCAA easily.

Personally, I hold a low opinion of College hockey. Their short seasons mean less development time for the players and a college atmosphere can be a major distraction to an up and coming player if he allows it to interfere (too much drinking, too much partying, too much pussy chasing). I consider the all 3 Canadian Junior leagues to be superior to the NCAA in terms of making players NHL ready and the general competitive vibe of the league itself.

I think the better coaching is largely in the CHL as well but one of the factors working in NCAA favour is recruitment. CHL teams must draft and develop players with some coming via trade. NCAA can target and recruit the top players available to come to one team. NCAA practice time is much greater which helps fill the development void but I still believe top teams in CHL are as good as top teams in NCAA

Are you saying there is no drinking, partying or pussy chasing outside of college? an 18 year old is an 18 year old Sure, but the its not a part of the usual daily life for kids in the OHL/WHL/QMJHL, those kids are WAY more focused on trying to make the grade and get drafted and make the NHL. There is also the factor that in college they are gonna learn skills and trades that could become a career outside of Hockey entirely. Who's more likely to work extra hard to make the NHL: The kid with a college degree and something to fall back on, so that when the NHL teams stop calling, he just gives up and goes into his field of study. or The kid with no degree, who's for him the NHL is his 1 best shot to make it in life. Personally, I'm going with kid #2. I've seen so many of these NCAA kids not make the NHL, in fact, I find most of them don't make it at all or only play a few years. The last successful college to NHL jump I recall seeing was Ryan McDonagh and that was like 5-6 years ago.

but I still believe top teams in CHL are as good as top teams in NCAA So you think the best CHL team could beat the university of Denver team?
