The Western "Powers" losing their way into playoff slots (see Flames, Sharks, Knights a bit)
The Eastern Wildcard race will be fun to follow. Not sure if I want CBJ to make it or break it. I lean towards the former after makin' all those moves. The latter would provide a slight chuckle, but it would be short lived. I like that GM Jarmo had the ball$ to go all in. Be nice for that fan base to be rewarded. The playoffs also need Torts!
Non-playoff Headlines: The McDraisaitl stat lines are amazing, as are McD97's highlight reels, along with the Chiasson (the successful Chia ; ) {oh, this gives me a tweet idea lol) underdog story, plus Nuge really showin' his worth - but to have 2 x 100 pt scorers (2 of the Top 4 lads in scoring) and not even in the thick of the playoff race is not surprising yet astonishing at the same time.

Columbus better make it, or these are gonna be a bunch of fired top folks from that team in the off-season.

Yea Sharks found a bad time to go on a 7 game losing streak. I'm personally fascinated by the Yotes being so close to the wildcard. I know they lost a close one to the Avs last night but man for such a young team to be this close is impressive. All that said, I think it's finally the Preds year to win it all.
No idea how the Isles are as good as they've been this year. Going on a limb to say it's all thanks to Adam Pelech. Who needs pijama boy fellow long islanders!

Doubling down on the Yotes push, this is just such an amazing story. One point back of Colorado with 3 games to go (Avs have game in hand). Their top scorer is Keller with 46 points (what's that 1/3 of McDavid's point total?), top goal scorer is Galchenyuk with 18, Kuemper is a career backup! Avs probably still favored to make it in but hopefully it comes down to a photo finish.
East wild card is also coming down to the wire. Columbus has a fairly easy sched and have been rolling so I expect them to get in. Between Canes and Habs I definitely like the Canes schedule more, with Habs finishing off with Tampa, Wash, and Toronto (though that one should be an easy W if the Sens have proven anything lately)

Go Dallas Go! (For tonight or tomorrow only)
Would have loved to see Arizona get in, only because how easy of a series that would have been, but with them out we need Colorado to get 8th.
If Dallas drops to WC2 I think they beat Calgary, 4 game sweep if Fantenberg and Smith play all 4 games, 6 games if they switch out Fantenberg (with Valimaki not Kylington) and Smith early enough (which I doubt Peters does).

Stupid Blackhawks playing like they are the team that won 3 Cups tonight.
Gavin, Ray what the hell donโt your guys know they are supposed to be tanking for a better pick?

This year has been tough to predict. Tampa looks like the clear favorite. Caps have a decent chance to repeat, they're well rested and healthy. Pens are always slept on but find ways to get there. Preds and Jets.. Should be a good one.
One thing I'm hoping doesn't happen is Leafs losing in 5 or 6 to the Bruins, but I have little confidence in this team based on the past 2 months. Would truly be shocked if we get past them.

Watched both early games last night and some thoughts:
- Isles are a different team under trotz.. They don't give pens are real space out there, and capitalized on good scoring chances when needed. Lehner and Barzal are lights out for sure, but it's all trotz - Columbus has been woken since the 75 f bombs from torts, it was a clinic out there. Like wasn't even close! Crazy - Hedman looked like an idiot taunting the jackets bench about being up 2-0 last year and losing, to players that weren't even on the team lol. He's also been reallly bad so far - Kutcherov is a dirty asshole and should get suspended for the play on nuutivara. Art Ross or not I'd give him 2 games

Blues just look like they're continuing to roll... Jets are trying to get back on track, but somethings wrong with this team this year.. the chemistry seems off. They're definitely not as a good as they were last year. Sharks and Vegas was a good tilt last night as well... i don't think that sharks 4th goal should have been called back, fleury was outside of his crease in my opinion..

1 game for Kucherov? Unbelievable.
If you pay attention to his play, he ALWAYS becomes a dirty player when things aren't going his way. Intentionally trying to hurt players, but because he has no history he only gets 1 game. NHL missed an opportunity here to actually say they care about player health, and they treat all players the same with suspensions whether you are a big name player or not.
Lucky for the Lightning, they might actually play better without him.

"Playoff games are worth more" is the reason for it only being 1 game.

I know I am likely supposed have a soft spot for them since they are my JGHL team but I cannot believe the Islanders have won a game let alone are leading the series.
Outside of Barzal there is not an ounce of talent on that team. Sure the refs have played a huge role in them winning but even with that the Pens should be winning this series easily.
As for the Flames-Avs, are are likewise a garbage team outside of the top line but fantenberg has been a disaster all series and needs to be taken out immediately. I won't blame him fully for last nights loss because Brodie was the 1st star for the Avs but switch Fantenberg and Valimaki and the Flames are up 2-0.

The NHL is the only sport where the rules change come playoff time. Its disastrous really for a league that is trying to preach speed and skill for 82 games then by game 2 of the playoffs you'd swear the Broad Street bullies were the league officials. Not sure why Gary accepts that but Im assuming by the way every series has been that there was a memo sent out. Im fine with either style just pick one and let it be the way all year. Then skilled teams aren't rewarded during reg season and mayhem rewarded the rest
