I think 30 goals and 74 points disagree with that assessment. Yeah, you eventually sucked someone into taking him with all that talk Tavares was a long time ago now, you don't even have him anymore, so whatever, I got the future to look forward too, no sense looking at the past. I’m not sure 74 points is first line center material. I mean Sean Monahan outscored him and I sure don’t think Monahan is a first line center. But I do have Hedman because of that trade Its a start, he's only 25, not 31. He plays a very strong game and is given a lot of minutes, Monahan is a very similar player, better stat wise than Z, but he's obviously very good and basically also a 1st line C. There are more than just 4 Good centers in the league, 100+ points is not the standard for 1st line C, thats the exceptional. People got some crazy standards. Not everyone can just trade for the best players all the time though, some of us draft

Monahan is definitely a #1 C lol. Not saying he's in the top 10 or even 15, but at 24 years old his career progression and stats are very similar to Tavares. I think his 82 points from last season are going to be the norm going forward, not the exception. And if that ain't #1 C numbers then i don't know what is.
There's a difference between a first line talent and an elite/generational talent. Maybe that's where the confusion lies.

Aside from McDavid and Crosby players like Getzlaf, Kopitar, Bergeron, Scheifle, Tavares, Mathews, Seguin, Barkov, Giroux, Coutourier, Backstrom, Malkin, Couture, Eichel, Duchene, Mackinnon, Kuznetsov , and Toews are first line C’s. I’m a Flames fan and I just don’t see Monahan in that category. He put up better numbers this season than some of the players above, but he’s not a two way player and he doesn’t drive the play. without Gaudreau I think he’s a 30-30 center.

And wait until next year when Dylan Larkin breaks out, you will all be looking back and saying - "Wow, this Mike guy who runs Pittsburgh might know a thing or 2 about hockey!"

I like Larkin, Mantha and Bertuzzi on that team. Good guys. They just need a proper D core and a goalie, who is even in net for them? Still Howard?

Oh I definitely think Larkin is a #1 center, I just made that list from the top of my head as guys I think that are more suited to being the #1 center on a team. I agree about Draisaitl , but being an Edmonton Oiler I dislike him.

We have a few guys in the system but they are 2-3 years off. Might go a year with a 55 overall goalie at the helm pretty soon.
