The Oilers have shown you need more than one elite player (3/6 years in the playoffs with McDavid and out of the first round once)... I just can’t get behind tanking. Especially for guys that are presumably a far cry from McDavid. You need “support” like Tkachuk, Lindholm, Gaudreau, Monahan et al. I’m not saying you don’t sell some of them, only that you shouldn’t sell them all for a shot at a top 3 pick. Look at the top 5 picks for the last several years. Not all of them are slam dunks... I’d estimate half of them are at least not game breakers. Buffalo has shown you need more than Eichel, in 2016 the only guy I would choose over Tkachuk is Mathews, in 2017 none of the top 5 are guys that are worth tanking for IMO, and it’s probably too early to judge 2018-2020 much but so far it’s the same story. I agree you still need a good organization but for the Oilers example imagine if instead of McDavid they had Pavel Zacha and instead of Draisatl they had Hayden Fleury. That is my fear about dropping out of the running for Bedard/Wright and getting the 6th/7.th pick instead. My point is that the Oilers got lucky.... they happened to tank and win the lottery in the year a generational player was 1st overall. Prior to that the Oilers had gone through like a decade of literally record breaking horribleness and even though they drafted 1st overall and in the top five numerous times, getting guys like Hall, Yakupov, RNH, Paajarvi, Puljujarvi, Gagner.... (am I missing anyone!?) they were still terrible. I don’t want the Flames to tank until they are better as things could easily go the same way and I don’t want to live through an even more terrible decade of flames hockey.

This is far too much chatter about the Flames.

This is far too much chatter about the Flames. In my defence I think my last post was more about how lucky the Oilers were that they ever stopped sucking (and I still think them not sucking is very temporary).

Can't help but think how much the pandemic has affected the 2018-20 classes. Just skimming through them, not a lot of NHLers outside the lotteries. 2018 I think was just a rough class overall. The last few are such works in progress. 2020 class is a weird one. We obviously have much better hindsight vision so it'll be interesting to see how our top 10 goes. Can see Lafreniere slipping to 3 easily. Not necessarily saying he should, but I can see it. Personally I can't see how any of the top 3 guys in the JGHL can take him. In fact if they do I would say we should void the pick and just award him to whoever has the 4th pick.

This is far too much chatter about the Flames. Not nearly enough Flames talk, in fact this league should probably turn into a Flames discussion league first, sim league second!

Just in case anyone wondered why Noel "Norris" Acciari has the highest DF in the league That play was sick. I even said when it happened, that’s why the guy has 88df

That whole game was a great watch. For sure the most entertaining game of the playoffs so far to me. I just hope Florida can bounce back!

I do too, mainly because I like watching a different team win the cup every season (and also Fuck the Lightning) As for Acciari he's definitely a great defensive player, probably better than half of the D on my roster

How are we feeling about that Mantha deal Mike? The capitals getting first rounded turned this home run of a deal for Yzerman into a GRAND SLAM. With Penguins being eliminated as well the pick moves up another spot. Now lets root for Vegas to lose, as well as Carolina so that pick can keep movin on up!

Steve-y is such a good gm, proving it in his second stint all over again.
