While the trade increased in 1 player, it also increased in quality of draft pick, there-by half-way negating the extra player completely. With that said, I did vote to pass, but I still don't see it as a very balanced trade. So what your saying is, that Penner is not worth a 1 and a 2.....and Preissing is not worth a 1 and a 4??

pfft.. I'll say that! Penner is worth maybe a first in my mind.. a late first at best at this point in his career.. and Preissing is definitely not worth a first and a fourth, let alone a first..
But i mean.. yea you make a good point in saying that worse deals have been passed.. but doesnt that mean that that should change sometime ?? Look, I always felt that voting was instilled to insure nobodys trying to screw their team over or the league over and in that case, no the deal doesnt do that.. therefore in some cases it should be made to pass.. obviously both GM's here have intentions to improve their franchise in different ways, but it hink that trade is still being rejected because GM's dont feel that these players are worth the picks that are being tossed around. And clearly, there are more GM's that feel that way than not.. so I dont know, but yes.. if the trade is looked at in a sense that both GM's are passionate about what they're getting back, then the deal should go through.
And another thing that Kevin touched on was the bias thats going about with the trade involving Calgary, and I second this. Under no circumstances should a general manager be treated differently because of the status of their franchise or the amoutn of picks he already has. If peopple are looking at that, just because its Calgary, then sadly theres no way to track that but its unfortunate for the league, for the two sides in this trade and for any trade Calgary makes in the future. We need to treat every GM the same in this league, or else thats not fair.

Myabe changing to the second rd pick was much but then again we are not dealing with new GM's here, we are dealing with two guys who have won cups, besides Jon who else can say they built a cup wnner. Give both these credit, I don't care what you think, each know what each needs and wants for their respective teams and Kevin has needs to fill in the form of players and Chrsi has abundance of players. If you have players to offer him as good or better then what he got, make him an offer otherwise I don't think those that voted no should really do so, period!
Again what team did you all win the cup with. Carolina won one, which should give him the credit he desrves to built the team he wants to and how he wants to......

There are good arguments either way, but frankly, no amount of this is going to result in a over-turn of the voting system. You guys are welcome to re-submit, or re-negotiate more if you want but if the votes say no, thats how it is until its voted on again, from scratch.

Wondering if maybe that rule, about being allowed to only trade one player with no contract after the season ends, should only apply to UFA'S, and maybe be no limit for RFA'S as long as re-sign rule is followed by the receiver. Just a thought.

Just a thought. There are several reasons for the rule. There are already 26 quality FAs coming off the board before FA even starts. Allowing more unsigned players to be moved would water down FA even more. It also preserves the opportunity for other GMs to trade an unsigned player. Say for example 3 teams traded 3 FAs each, that now eliminates 9 teams anyone could possibly deal with to trade away one of their FAs, since 9 teams have now already used their re-sign. Just a few examples

Just a few examples i just wanted to say that i back this rule. PLayer movement is important, and i owundt want to see FA get any more watered down. So i fully back your ruling. I dont see a reason why they couldnt just wait until after FA to make the same deal though

Trading doesn't stop for FA, so in the long run, Jake can sign him without a raise [pending any opposition] for 4 years, and trade him right away, back to Buf. Buf could get him a bit cheaper and a year longer that way. He would have been 10 mil if he was a re-sign, he could go to 10 mil in FA, but the Shark man can match[RFA], win him, and trade him.

Interesting trade, should help make Buffalo become a play-off contender. Both teams could benefit present and future.

i might be nuts, but what the hell are yo talking about? when did buffalo make a trade? LOL Classic Monty. Sharky asked what we thought of the Thorton trade[almost] to Buff., which was ruled a violation of the fa trading rule- Gavin missed it - Jon caught it and it was pulled at 11-4 to pass. Didn't you vote LOL Anyway that's what we are talking about I think. Twlight Zone music plays.

I wanted to get younger. had to move Cole to get a valuable player like Seabrook , Ohlund is solid but again I wanted to get younger and that happens with 23 yr old and 22 year old and I think Kennedy will have a good year this year and future and we will see how that goes...Foster is good and young but is coming back from bad injury, sillinger was just to have forward.... I guess the difference is I am willing to pull trigger on trades that I think will help me, while others will go back and forth until nothing is done. But no problem, I plan on getting younger and have to move older guys when I can. By the way if they are so good why didn't you offer me someone LOL Just playing but why didn't you, you could use the help no doubt on d and at forward and both were on block a few times.....
